Gospel Windows: St. Matthew

St. Matthew Window

LOCATION: North wall of the chancel.
IN MEMORY OF: Clyde Frazier (1886-1961) and Gretchen Culter (1898-1964)
DONOR: Ruth Frazier
DATE GIVEN: 1965
COMMENTS: Clyde Frazier and his wife, Ruth, resided in Mt. Vernon for
many years. Clyde was an oil producer. Gretchen Culter made her home
with her sister, Ruth, for several years before her death. After the deaths
of Clyde and Gretchen, Ruth moved back to Des Moines, Iowa.

IN MEMORY OF: Clyde Frazier (1886-1961) and Gretchen Culter (1898-1964)

COMMENTS: Clyde Frazier and his wife, Ruth, resided in Mt. Vernon for many years. Clyde was an oil producer. Gretchen Culter made her home with her sister, Ruth, for several years before her death. After the deaths of Clyde and Gretchen, Ruth moved back to Des Moines, Iowa.

LOCATION: Behind the choir stalls, the western-most window
IN MEMORY OF: Norton Gowenlock Warren (1987-1966)
DONOR: Mildred Warren (sister)
DATE GIVEN: Dedicated 1967
COMMENTS: Norton Warren along with his two sisters and parents are listed in the parish records for 1897. Norton was decorated for bravery in WWI, having fought in the Belleau Woods battle. He was a consultant with Quality Bakers of America.

Miss Warren, his sister, taught school for many years in Mt. Vernon. She was confirmed in 1903 by the first Bishop of Springfield, Bishop Seymour. At her death in 1984 Miss Warren had personally known every bishop of the diocese.

LOCATION: Behind the choir stalls, the middle window.
IN MEMORY OF: The Rev. John Edgar Gill (vicar 1946-1952)
DONOR: No information in file
DATE GIVEN: 1967
COMMENTS: Fr. Gill was vicar of Trinity, McLeansboro, from 1946 to 1952. He was killed in an automobile accident coming back to Mt. Vernon from McLeansboro. The day of his funeral his wife, Louise Heidler Gill, gave birth to their daughter, Libby. Fr. Gill rebuilt Trinity after WWII. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetary in Mt. Vernon.

DEDICATED TO: Hazel Tober, on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Hazel was present at the dedication, as was most of her family.

LOCATION: North wall, the fourth window from the east wall in the nave.
IN MEMORY OF: John Joseph Callahan (1893-1966)
DONOR: Presented by friends
DATE GIVEN: 1967
COMMENTS: John Callahan survived his wife, Alma. After Alma's death he sold their home and moved to Anoko, Minnesota to be with his daughter, Patricia Zimmerman. There is no local obituary.

IN MEMORY OF: Alma Urban Callahan
DONOR: Presented by friends
DATE GIVEN: 1967
COMMENTS: Alma's funeral was private. She is buried in Valhalla Cemetary in St. Louis.

The Blessed Virgin Mary Window

LOCATION: North wall, the second window from the east wall in the nave.
IN MEMORY OF: Jack Emmanuel Crouch, Jr. (1947-1966)
DONOR: Presented by friends
DATE GIVEN: 1967
COMMENTS: Jack, Jr. was killed in the Vietnam War while serving as a Marine. He was wounded in Vietnam and evacuated to a hospital in Hawaii where he died. Our church family still mourns the loss of this fine, young man who died serving his country.

St. Anne Window

LOCATION: North wall, the first window from the east wall in the nave
IN MEMORY OF: All deceased members of the Guild
DONOR: St. Anne's Guild members
DATE GIVEN: 1967
COMMENTS: In 1946 Mary Alexander, Octa Newkirk, Jean Thatcher, and Margaret Thompson formed St. Anne's Guild. The Guild has provided continuity during times of stress as well as finanacial support to Trinity.
